SCO HipCheck UNIX Agent for Linux - Download Information

Revised for HipCheck 1.1-UP2, February 17, 2009

Linux support overview

A large variety of Linux distributions exist. Many of these will work with the HipCheck agent, especially since the agent installation can coexist with both of the major Linux packaging mechanisms, RPM and Debian.

The following distributions are the reference platforms for the agent, and thus the most tested:

Preferred Installation Method

Linux HcSCOUA patchck-based installation procedure

Installation of the dependent packages, and of the HipCheck agent itself, is simplified by use of SCO's patchck software management utility. Follow these instructions.

First, you must download patchck if you do not already have it. This utility is gotten from SCO's ftp site here. Save the patchck tarball to /tmp and use this command to extract it: zcat /tmp/patchck.tar.Z | tar xvPf -.

Now, execute patchck to do HipCheck agent installation: /etc/patchck -hipcheck. The patchck utility will download and install the components listed below, if they are not present on your system already, and then it will download and install the HipCheck agent.

Detailed Installation Method

If you do not use the patchck-based installation procedure, you can download the necessary dependent packages listed below, for those your system does not already have, and install them each manually, and then download the HcSCOUA HipCheck agent package itself as specified below, and again install it manually.

Note that downloads from mirror sites should work in addition to those specified below. Later versions of these packages should work as well.

Linux HcSCOUA tar-format package

Filename Description
HcSCOUA-1.1.LINUX.tar.gz Linux HcSCOUA compressed tar file
HcSCOUA-1.1.LINUX.tar.gz.cksum checksum for Linux HcSCOUA compressed tar file (cksum)

Linux HcSCOUA installation dependencies

  1. Java version:

  2. Apache Tomcat Servlet Container

  3. Apache Axis SOAP Web Services

  4. Expect - programmed dialog tool

  5. Curl - Command line tool for transferring files with URL syntax

Linux HcSCOUA installation

Now you are ready to install HcSCOUA, the HipCheck agent for Linux, which is available from the HipCheck download area linked to from the top of this page.

For maximum flexibility across Linux distributions, HcSCOUA uses a simple tar file format rather than any specific Linux packaging technology. Installation is done using the following sequence of commands:

cd gunzip HcSCOUA-1.1.LINUX.tar.gz tar xvf HcSCOUA-1.1.LINUX.tar cd ./HcSCOUA-1.1 ./install.sh

To remove the HipCheck agent, run

./install.sh -rm

Linux post-installation tuning

For account validation to work in Fedora, you need to change the shell for the lp account in /etc/passwd from /sbin/nologin to /bin/bash.

The iptables command needs to be run to allow Tomcat connections on port 8082; for initial testing, you can turn off port controls.
